Fire Safety and Prevention
Roberts Wesleyan College works in conjunction with the state of New York and the local fire districts in an effort to educate people in Fire Prevention and to protect the campus from the threatening dangers of fire.

In 2000, as a result of legislation pertaining to improvement of fire safety on college campuses, the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control started visiting our campus annually to inspect for compliance with the fire safety codes and standards set by the state. Their goal is to work cooperatively with the college to educate and enhance fire prevention and safety by reducing careless and hazardous conditions which could lead to fire. In addition to this yearly inspection, there are bi-annual inspections of the fire alarm system, to ensure its proper function.
All buildings are wired to an alarm system which is constantly monitored by Central Station, 24 hours per day, providing early warning in the event of excess smoke or heat. State and Federal agencies require a minimum number of fire drills each semester, which are conducted in each building by Campus Security staff. The purpose of these drills is to familiarize students and employees with evacuation procedures, the sound of the alarms, and the locations of exits and emergency exit doors in the area. Every dorm room has a smoke detector. Inspection of all fire extinguishers is performed monthly, by the Security staff as a part of the NYS compliance code.
