Residence Hall Security

College residence halls offer many conveniences to their residents. Proximity to classes, dining and activities are just a few. An interest in security and safety also draws students to campus life.

The office of Student Services and, in particular, the Residence Life Staff is dedicated to maintaining and improving the safety and security in the residence halls. The staff has the duty of insuring that the exterior doors are properly locked. They also give indoctrination and presentations on safety and security of the dorms.

As in any other community, there are behavioral expectations of the residents, visitors and guests to the college residence halls. These standards are well known and are part of the student indoctrination. Any reported or seen violations will generate an incident report from Security and will be handled for discipline through the Student Services Office. Gross infractions will be handled immediately by calling in the appropriate personnel as dictated by the situation.

Beginning with freshmen orientation and following through with refresher lectures, personal safety education is stressed. Topics include locking dorm rooms, not propping open exterior and fire doors, not walking alone (on and off campus) at night, and reporting any unusual events or persons who look suspicious to Campus Security. This can and will make a difference in keeping you, your dorm and the campus safe.
