Connecting in the Dorms
Campus Manager
In an ongoing effort to protect our students at RWC, IT Services will be using Campus
Manager to ensure network security and reliability. Students living in the
dorms and apartments are required to register their personal computers before they
will be allowed access to the Internet and the RWC Network from their rooms.
The benefits of Campus Manager include:
- Minimizes the chance that your PC will get infected by viruses or spyware
- Keeps other people’s infected computers from impacting your computer directly
- Certifies that you are an authorized user on the campus network
- Checks your computer for operating system updates and antivirus software
- Scans to verify that you have the latest security patches to protect your computer
- Allows IT Services to automatically respond to any problems that are discovered
Campus Manager works with all types of computers and gaming consoles.
To participate on the RWC Campus network, you must first register your computer
through a webpage that will run a scan to ensure you are not a threat to other users.
Upon completion of the registration process you will be granted access to the network
and internet resources.
Registration will be required the first time you use the internet on campus.
The entire process takes only minutes and includes step by step directions.
You will receive options that include: up-to-date antivirus software, anti-spyware
software, virus definitions, personal firewalls, and network management tools.

Campus Manager FAQ
I'm concerned about my privacy. Is Campus Manager going to track everything
I do?
Campus Manager does not track your computer activity, nor does it look at any data
files on your computer. The application runs during registration to verify
your operating system and patch level along with your antivirus software and virus
definition dates. It deletes itself after you are successfully registered
and nothing from Campus Manager is left running on your computer. Another
component of Campus Manager is the Nessus scan. These scans simulate viruses,
worms and trojans probing your computer for vulnerabilities. Their purpose
is to make sure you have the latest patches to your operating system installed.
The real threat to your privacy comes from the viruses, worms, trojans and spyware
that can get on your computer if it isn't properly protected.
Will I have to register every time I turn on my computer?
No. We will periodically require you to re-register your computer to ensure
that you are keeping up with operating system patches and antivirus updates.
This will normally be done at the beginning of each semester. If a serious
threat to our campus network is discovered, we will require you to re-register in
order to verify that your computer is not vulnerable.
What will be required to connect to the campus network and
the Internet?
Computers (and game systems) will need to be registered to connect to the campus
network and the Internet (All computers and game systems)
Computers will need to have the latest operating system updates software before
connecting (Windows computers only)
Computers will need to have approved anti-virus program (e.g. McAfee, Norton) and
an approved spyware software (e.g. Windows Defender) installed before connecting
(Windows computers only)
Computers not up to date will be quarantined so they can download needed software
and anti-virus updates (Windows computers only)
My antivirus software isn't supported and I'm not paying to get another one.
How can I register my computer?
Upon completion of the scan, suggestions of free antivirus protection packages will
be displayed. We recommend you uninstall any original, out of date antivirus
software existing on your computer before you install a new one.
Can I use a router on the network?
No. Routers prevent Campus Manager from seeing devices connected to the LAN
interfaces. In the event that someone connects there router to the network,
Campus Manager will configure that port for the registration network. The
devices connected to the router will be forced to the registration network as well
but even though the user completes the registration process for the PC, the port
will never be switched back to the usable network. This is because the router
itself can never complete the registration process. If you want to use more
than one device/computer/game console, you will need to physically connect that
device to the wall port at the time of use.
